The Afflicted Yard proudly proclaims that it is “A non-registered member of the Jamaica Tourist Board since 1999.” This was one of Peter Dean Rickard‘s early experiments: a brash, bold way of announcing his intentions to reshape our ideas of beauty, violence and humanity – from Jamaica. Since that time, Rickards has kept his promise, and fashioned a glamorous and gritty aesthetic that could not be further removed from the tourist brochure.
