CHIMURENGA 2002 – 2023
Chimurenga launched its first issue, Chimurenga: Music is the Weapon! on April 1st 2002.
Since then, we have produced The Chimurenga Chronic, a gazette borne out of an urgent need to write our world differently, to begin asking new questions, or even the old ones anew; Chimurenganyana, a pavement-literature project consisting of serialized monographs expanding on themes developed in the journal; Chimurenga Library, a platform for long-term research, which explores the production of history in the absence of documentary archives; Pan-African Space Station, a periodic, pop-up live studio, an itinerant performance and exhibition space, as well as internet-based radio station, which hosts sonic experiments and explores the broadcasting studio as a creative platform.
Chimurenga’s work has been recognised internationally through awards such as the Prince Claus Fund (2011) and the Vera List Center Prize for Art and Politics (2020). However our work is primarily supported by our community of readers, seekers, inventors, repairers and more. As we consider the next 20 years of Chimurenga, we request your support through a donation, so we may continue to provide space for ideas, reflection and action, about the African world by Africans.
We greatly appreciate your support.
